Um…brellas

So it’s storming outside, one of those summer thrashers, which leaves me thinking of pretty, pretty accessories.
At the moment, umbrellas are at the top of that list.
Of course these are the rain-specific umbrellas.

Why choose one color, celebrate the rainbow.

And then you can always take it one step farther, with roses–isn’t fashion grand?

Let’s not forget the umbrellas’s close cousin, the parasol.
We have the daintifully, delightful lace design.

You don’t need hunt the top haute couture fashion house to strike some style when dashing out.
These fabulous pieces by indulge-by-vasudha are so jazzy they’re stazzy.
And of course there are always the silk-screen option…in the case below made with satin. Either way though, you wouldn’t want to take out into the rain.
Pick a bold color and smile in the rain or shine.

Dash of flash
By rebekah
We all know less is more, that’s not to say the classic “More is More” approach is always fun. Maybe that’s why, I’m in love. I mean IN LOVE, with these little mini rings. If bigger is better, more colour, more material, more pattern, more fluff than sometimes we need an accessory to work with–not work up–our look.
These rings add a fabulous flash of flair (yes, I pulled a triple F there) dressed up or like in the image below, dressed down. A wave of the hand and in the sunlight you get a glimpse of glamour. Aloft, not overwhelming. The image is linked to Feed Your Style and the blog writer Micol Zanzuri has a wonderful thing going there.
Back to mini rings.
When I slip mine on, they feel like wearing bronzer. If you do it right, at first glance most don’t even notice the bronzer other than you have great color and a little sprinkle.
Of course we are in an industry of adding a dash, pinch, and splash until more is really more…
Here is a great mini ring that will surely get noticed.
Show your Colors
By rebekah
The spring sprung ages ago and now summer is all about the sun. Color-wise that means bright greens, light yellows and don’t forget the neon oranges. However is it just me, or are navy stripes joining the ranks of summer standard?
Check out this little number from the Style Hive. It’s so simple, but it’s that the appeal. And with a halter cut and hem hitting around the knee, the stripe adds a hint of pattern making it fun while avoiding the busy-ness of other patterns.
Where there is simple, always is the opportunity for complex or even dare I say controversial although the scandal has more to do the choice in model (faceless plastic) than the stripes with anchors motif.
Or are the anchors and stripes motif exactly why the above outfit is so “on the edge”, because it sings of the navy and what’s more patriotic than a salute however you see fit.
[to clarify sailorcostumesforwomen.com is a website devoted to sexy sailor costumes].
So be smart this summer and don’t be afraid have some fun, whether you are trying to look hot while staying cool, or keeping it casual at the office.
Either way, sport some navy and sing: In the Navy
Men’s trends to the rescue
By rebekah
What are fashion trends but a great do-to guide for our seasonal do’s and don’ts. So summer is here and once again after a busy day people watching, I thought I should cover a few of those do’s and don’ts.
Understand one can’t create Super-Cool in a day or even the reading of this blog. However here’s three tips to get you started.
DON’T wear socks with those sandals or boat shoes.
Even paired with a suit, causally done-up, socks are NEVER the answer. Check out the super-cool, super-causal look below. So trendy it’s a sin.
Another tip, skip the cargo shorts. YES, we all love pockets, but let’s be real life weighting you down is never attractive even if it’s all those handy necessities
Wild Impressions of the Fall RTW 2011
By rebekah
There was a breeze in the air today, which reminded to revisit Fall RTW 2011. I know the collections have been out since February and have haunted this blog since, but let’s be honest–like good art, a good collection needs to be revisited. With a chill in the air, now seems like the perfect time to ogle the latest and greatest.
One of my favorite trends at the moment, is the bold color abstract designs that harken to the classic impressionism period. I think Basso & Brooke pulled this off the best.
Call me crazy, but I feel the pull of shape objects laying in the wake of patterning. As if the image, the real image is a secret waiting to be discovered. So take a pause and look twice, you never know what you are going to find.

Mesh Dares to be Reinvented
By rebekah
Some times a classic is just to classic to go anywhere.
Case in point, this Aluminum Metal Mesh Handbag in concept and style has been around for the last 300 years. Mesh as a protective garment has been in fashion since the medieval ages. And what would a black smith do with the scraps left over from making knife-proof vests? Why make coin purses for royalty. Durable, shiny, and of course, expensive. Here we are in the modern age, and mesh is still in fashion.
Why would the scraps of mesh stop at a coin purse? Here’s a touch of class.
Of course in the recent tide of military and metallic trends; that being said, Mesh is BIG and has been for a little while.
And of course there are the fashion crimes along the way.
Which brings us to the most recent cover of Rolling Stone. No those shorts aren’t painted on, that mesh-ware at it’s finest. So you have to ask yourself, how much would those short chafe?
Channeling McQueen, props to Sarah Burton
By rebekah
With all the flamboyance expected from an Alexander McQueen collection, the Spring/Summer 2011 did not disappoint and now considering the fall/winter 2011/12 collection I think it’s safe to say that Alexander McQueen’s sense of style has lived on, as I’m sure he would have wanted it to. Taking over the reigns for the label is Sarah Burton. In the October 5, 2010 New York Times article by Cathy Horyn, Sara Burton’s First Collection for McQueen, she reported that the S/S 2011 collection was conceptually designed on the principles of craftsmanship and tenderness with the theme of decaying nature solidly captured in each piece. Perhaps considering the circumstances surrounding her taking over the label, the decaying nature is rather apropo.
However as we all know last fall is decades ago in fashion years, so here we are neck-deep in Fall/winter 2011 collections. And in the parade of avant-garde and wonderfully whimsical wear, Alexender McQueen has once again given us–the fashion consumer– something to think about.
White is back in a big way this fall.
And for those days when white won’t work, this embellished piece captures the eye-catching sparkle we all know and love. While this collection isn’t themed with decaying nature, I do see the blooms of nature. Perhaps the swirling patterns of a monarch butterfly.
From butterflies to shrubbery, this piece screams Fern Gully.
and of course staying with the natural theme…we have leaves ad leaves in all the right places.
